There’s more in store from Jonathan Charles than ever before! Here’s what’s coming in soon from this bespoke manufacturer of fine furniture, available in 2021 through the House of Markor.

Toulouse

The 30-piece Toulouse collection hones in on 20th century European modern in a warm and livable way, balancing a variety of soft curves with sleek, low profiles and tapered legs. Materials such as walnut solids and veneers, oil-rubbed metals, and duck eggshell inlay play prominent roles. The latter is a technique borrowed from ancient China and is a mosaic of cross-sectioned eggshell fragments. This finish that emulates French straw work from the 1940s, combined with the hand-cast hardware that is designed concurrent with the cabinetry, imbues the collection with the level of hand craftsmanship that is a consistent hallmark of Jonathan Charles.

Barcelona

The Barcelona collection features bleached walnut solids and veneer in bookmatched herringbone, radial and swirl patterns, stainless steel, and silver and gold leaf accents, and takes cues from Spanish, French and Italian design traditions. While the metalwork calls to mind Spanish ironsmiths and some of the metallic accents hint at Italian Renaissance, the low luster finish on case pieces adds a sense of modern style that negates any fussiness. Other materials mixed into the Barcelona collection include Spanish marble and leather.

Gatsby

Jonathan Charles traveled back to the 1920s and 30s for the inspiration behind their new Deco-influenced Gatsby collection, consisting of dining and living room essentials. The two eras’ design influences are manifested in a subtle manner with stainless steel, mother of pearl, and brass accents layered over the greyed walnut and eucalyptus foundation. Stylistically, the Art Deco inspiration shines through in geometric formations, whether it’s the asymmetric veneer pattern on a table top or a series of varying rectangular shapes over cabinet doors.

Geometric

Shape, structure and purity of line require the designer to distill their creativity into its most edited forms. Visually captivating for its clarity, Geometric does not cloak itself in decoration, but rather honors the notion that the truth of form is the finest expression of modernist craft. The collection is crafted from cerused oak with bright brass accents in visually striking angled arrangements.
